NATIONAL FEEDLOT ACCREDITATION SCHEME

Gundamain Feedlot was established in 2001 as a 6000 head feedlot. Gundamain is accredited under the National Feedlot Accreditation Scheme ( NFAS) and independently audited by Ausmeat annually. It establishes operating standards for beef cattle feedlots.

NFAS is the longest running quality assurance program in Australian agriculture , established in 1994

NFAS Mission

To ensure the Australian beef feedlot industry demonstrates a responsive feedlot management program for continual improvement, particularly in relation to cattle welfare and the environment, whilst guaranteeing the safety and integrity of grain fed beef.

Purpose

To provide a Quality System for beef feedlots:
(a) that will impact positively on product integrity, quality, and acceptability; and
(b) for which lot feeders maintain responsibility.

FARM - LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION ASSURANCE

LPA program is the on farm assurance program that underpins market access for Australian red meat. LPA National vendor declarations provide evidence of livestock history and on farm practices when transferring livestock through the value chain. The LPA program has seven requirements.

WOOLWORTHS SUPPLIER ACCREDITATION

Gundamain is accredited under the Woolworths Supplier Excellence Program- Industry Standard for Cattle Feedlots. The program is also independently annually audited by AusMeat.

Sustainable Grains Australia ( SGA) International Sustainability and carbon certification ( ISCC)

Gundamain grown canola is sold through the Sustainable Grains Australia certification program, covering environmental management, GHG and emission, chemical use and inventory, training and risk assessment, biodiversity and pollinator plans.

SUSTAINAWOOL

Gundamain is accredited under the Integrity scheme for Australian wool growers.

Owned by the Australian wool industry through the Australian Wool Exchange Limited (AWEX), SustainaWOOL provides guaranteed traceability from farm to fabric, and means best practices have been adopted and independently verified for:

  • Responsible stewardship of the land
  • Best welfare and husbandry practices of the sheep
  • Superior quality of the wool and preparation standards

MEAT STANDARDS AUSTRALIA

Meat Standards Australia (MSA) is a national eating quality grading system. As an MSA producer, Gundamain, is required to ensure that cattle meet the following requirements:

  • Have an MSA Vendor declaration with the cattle being delivered.
  • All cattle must reside on the property of dispatch for a minimum 30 days prior to dispatch.
  • No entire males or animals showing secondary sexual characteristics are to be consigned to MSA.
  • Direct consignment cattle travelling by road transport need to be slaughtered within 48 hours after leaving the property.
